Day 59: The Shining

February 28, 2011
This is the sub-basement of Wheeler Hall. Reminded me of "The Shining." Creepy in the sense that it's narrow, all white, and there's that constant buzzing noise. My friend sent me a text that said "7Wheeler" when I asked where practice was. There was a 7 Wheeler down here. But he really meant, "Wheeler at 7pm."

Day 58: Limited Sunlight

February 27, 2011
Enjoyed a Chipotle lunch underneath the trees in front of VLSB. It's going to be a while before I'm able to do this at leisure again. Time to study for physics.

Day 57: Locked Away

February 26, 2011
Morrison Hall's basement, where musicians keep their instruments and other music paraphernalia locked away. I play hermit on the weekends, locked in my room, especially during midterm season. The results of my midterms are blurry and unclear, but I know the present is macro-clear: I must study.

Day 56: Allegedly Spring

February 25, 2011
Found these flowers blooming outside my dorm room. Spring is definitely here, but so are reports of snow in the Bay Area. The first time in.. forever, I guess. But in any case, I don't think there will be any snow here.

Day 55: Old Favorites

February 24, 2011
Thursday nights, my busiest - and most fun-filled - night of the week. This was taken during my fairy tales DeCal; basically we watch Disney movies and compare trends in culture and whatnot, in relation to the original texts. Tonight was all about "Robin Hood." As discussed in class, seeing bits of stereotypical American aspects in a purely and originally British story is a little mind blowing. Never did I expect to be dissecting Disney movies the way I am now.

Day 54: Rainy Night

February 23, 2011
There's something about seeing the world at night. And then there's something about seeing the world in the rain. And then there's something better about seeing the world through both simultaneously. This is one of the bridge-ways that travel over Strawberry Creek. Lampposts always make me think of Narnia. Then again, so does Main Stacks.

Day 53: Bullet Proof

February 22, 2011
Found this in the window of the first floor Slottman study room. This photo makes it look like a bullet was shot from the outside. However, the scar is actually concave outwards. I would like to think there was once a shooting in this very building.

Day 52: Word Play

February 21, 2011
I spent most of the day playing Scrabble with my sister. She's getting progressively better at the game, going from 97 to 260 in a matter of games! These are the tiles I drew on my first turn during the last game. Despite the semi-power tiles, not exactly the best tiles to start the game off. But I guess it's better than Rachel's; she started off with 5 E's.

Day 51: Sitting Duck

February 20, 2011
I was too lazy to snap a photo on Sunday, so I'll use this lazy swan we found at the Palace of Fine Arts in SF. It refused to escape the rain, and stood on the banks grooming itself. Sitting duck. In photo terms.

Day 50: Rainy Photography

February 19, 2011
Took a trip to the Palace of Fine Arts on a rainy Saturday. It was actually pretty refreshing, stepping outside in the rain and snapping photos. It's a different feeling from taking photos in the safety of sunlight. The rush of taking pictures is "magical," for lack of a better term. (Because of my water-logged camera, I am currently using my sister's camera to get my photos.)

Day 49: Mirror Image

February 18, 2011
It's always nice to come home. It makes me see things from the flip side. What does my room look like while I'm gone? Does it turn topsy-turvy in my absence? Makes me appreciate having a place to which I can come home.

Day 48: Beyond Soaked

February 17, 2011
The rain really picked up today. The end result: a broken umbrella, soaked clothes (including shoes and socks), soaked books and notebooks, and a potentially broken camera. I'm in the process of drying everything out now. Overall not such a great day.

Day 47: Recycling Sustainability

February 16, 2011
My desk is constantly filled with water bottles. When I go back home, I take all these bottles with me and recycle them. It surprises me how many people don't bother to recycle even these plastic bottles. Nonetheless, I'll continue to recycle, and I'll continue to encourage it for other people.

Day 46: White Rabbit

February 15, 2011
I bought this little alabaster necklace when I visited Volterra, Italy. Since then, it's served as a charm for me when I take important tests. I didn't wear these to any standardized tests, but I wore them for all my AP tests. Now, in college, I've worn it for every single midterm and final I've had. I'm hoping it helped today, especially since I tackled three midterms.

Day 45: First Rain

February 14, 2011
Pretty ironic the rain started up on Valentine's Day. Perfect weather for Singles Awareness Day! Anywho, I found this worm out by the main building at Clark Kerr. It was about six to seven inches long, and was crawling about out in the open during a small shower. Spring is here.

Day 44: Singles Awareness

February 13, 2011
Tomorrow is Valentine's Day. And for my predicament, All Time Low's "Toxic Valentine" hits the mark. Looks like another lonely Valentine's Day for me aka I promote Singles Awareness Day. Luckily I have my midterms to keep me occupied. Currently I'm working through my toxicology notes (see what I did here?).

Day 43: Study Break

February 12, 2011
Today, I was a hermit in my dorm, only leaving for a trip to the dining hall for brunch. And even then it was take-out. But luckily, the Clark Kerr dining hall is famous for its brunch foods. Needless to say, the food was great. Four midterms, three nights, two days, only one head. Can I handle it? We'll find out.

Day 42: Music Binge

February 11, 2011
These earphones have been with me since my senior year. Tonight, in preparation for my midterms next week, I am going through all my music, downloading new songs, creating playlists, and the like. Listening to music right before a midterm really calms my nerves down. And having three in one day, I'm going to need some calming. Here comes a productive weekend!

Day 41: Comfort Strand

February 10, 2011
In preparation for the PMB 40 midterm, we viewed strawberry DNA during lecture. The little white clouds are all the DNA strands. Interesting for some, but for me, it's just another reminder that I have three midterms on Tuesday.

Day 40: Neglected Hallways

February 9, 2011
I do believe that Clark Kerr is the best looking dorm at UC Berkeley. But I feel bad because I'm never here to walk these outdoor hallways. Since there is so much distance between here and main campus, I usually camp out at Unit 1 or in a library somewhere. However, I'm spending more time here than I did last semester!

Day 39: Coincident Holiday

February 8, 2011
This gave us a little laugh during dinner. The things people make up these days. I also find it ironic that it just happens to fall on the same day as Valentine's Day.

Day 38: Eye Opener

February 7, 2011
The activism that Berkeley is so famous for finally came to light today. For me, anyways. Last semester was so hectic I never really noticed the protests attempting to waylay budget cuts and whatnot. But now that I have some breathing space, I appreciate seeing acts like this. It makes me realize I've stepped (even if it's a miniature step) into the real world.

Day 37: Off Beat

February 6, 2011
Shout out to the 2009-10 Olympus staff of Hercules High School! My ex co-editor and I were flipping through these pages again to select pages to submit for a yearbook contest. Makes me miss the days of high school. Work nights, endless supplies of food, countless pages, PDFs, and proofs. I'd give anything to go back. Definitely an off beat experience.

Day 36: Locality Love

February 5, 2011
To think that I wanted to leave the Bay Area for college. I hiked up to Strawberry Canyon today, up above Clark Kerr Campus. It was a beautiful, sunny day, and I saw all of San Francisco. A sight even a native like me has trouble seeing on a daily basis. But moments like this makes me glad to be a natural-born San Franciscan.

Day 35: From Dad

February 4, 2011
My dad got me this tiki cup from one of his many business trips to Hawaii. I remember that when he went on business trips, I looked forward to what he would bring home (these places included Chicago, Atlanta, and San Diego). Needless to say, his gifts are special to me. This cup has followed me to college, where it serves as a coin container. It's actually quite heavy.

Day 34: Care Packages

February 3, 2011
I live near home, and I find it comforting when my parents stop by and drop off snacks and the like. Like this Korean pastry filled with red bean - my favorite. Especially on tiring days like today, I could use the comforts of home in my oh-so-distant dorm room.

Day 33: Fancy Trajectory

February 2, 2011
Then again, attending a prestigious university shows sides of academia I never saw in high school. These Macs were supplied for every physics group during lab. This was also my second time attempting to use LoggerPro. The last time I used it was during AP Biology - which yielded some disastrous results. This experiment, however, was simple and fun.

Day 32: Breaking Boundaries

February 1, 2011
This is a topiary clock found in front of University House up on north campus. It's the first time I've ever been up here. Although it's 20 minutes ahead realtime, it's still a pretty neat part of campus. I've been breaking boundaries all semester. And I'm liking it so far!

Day 31: Deriving Fun

January 31, 2011
A couple friends and I worked on math homework today. After three full hours of physics, however, I wasn't ready to deal with any more numbers (or the lack of said numbers). However, once we got past this, it was a fun-filled night filled with late-night burrito runs, miso soup, COD, Whip My Hair, and the Spoon Killer. And I have my reasons for remembering it, too. :3
